Import-Module 'sqlps' -DisableNameChecking is returning a bunch of warnings I do not want to see in output. How do I supress them?
Hi All,
I find that with SQL 2012 and SQL 2014 I get the following types of WARNING: messages displayed when I import the sqlps module.
WARNING: The local computer does not have an active instance of Analysis Services.
WARNING: Could not obtain SQL Server Service information. An attempt to connect to WMI on 'Microsoft.WindowsAzure.Commands.SqlDatabase.Types.ps1xml' failed with the following error: The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)
I've tried adding -WarningAction SilentlyContinue and I've tried piping the output to null by adding | Out-Null but I still get this garbage that I don't care about on the servers I'm running these scripts on. Do any of you know how to suppress these warnings?

Data Collection Error - Failed to load the master package from the resources. The Data Collector resource file is corrupted.
Hi, All.
When checking the DataCollection report - Query Statisctics History, it says no query statistics were captured even though the Data Collection for Query Statistics (cached) is running and upon checking the cache directory it has no cache file for query statistics.
I have tried restarting specific Data Collector and it produced this error:

When to use Filestream partitions?
We have a Web site where we do a lot of document management. We currently have a table with 370,000 records in it. When uploading a new file we check it's size and if it is below 2Gig we store it in a VarChar blob column. We currently want to alter that table and add a Filestream column and transfer the data as shown below. As you see we are only creating one file folder and the query will probably run for six hours or so.
We are also thinking about adding up to 5 million audio files stored in a different area. We could conceivably end up with several terabytes of file data. Should we partition and if so how many files should we store in each partition? We are using SQL Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2.
--Create a ROWGUID column
USE CUR
ALTER Table documents
Add DocGUID uniqueidentifier not null ROWGUIDCOL unique default newid()
GO
--Turn on FILESTREAM
USE CUR
ALTER Table documents
SET (filestream_on=FileStreamGroup1)
GO
--Add FILESTREAM column to the table
USE CUR
ALTER Table documents
Add DocContent2 varbinary(max) FILESTREAM null
GO
-- Move data into the new column
UPDATE documents
SET DocContent2=DocContent
where doccontent is not null and doccontent2 is null
GO
--Drop the old column
ALTER Table documents
DROP column DocContent
GO
--Rename the new FILESTREAM column to the old column name
Use CUR
GO
sp_rename 'documents.DocContent2', 'DocContent','Column'
GO
All .exes containing SAP logon hang when executed as a job
I'm trying to schedule a job to start a vb .NET .exe that logs on to SAP via RFC. As soon as I put my SAP Logon function in there it hangs at the line R3.Connection.Logon(0, silent). It doesn't crash, but it never completes it. It works fine when I start
the exe on the server by hand though. I assume it has something to do with the SAP GUI being called in background mode or something along these lines. However, I can't find out anything more, because SQL never throws an error or writes anything in the log
file. It is just stuck in the execution stage.
The strange thing is that this has worked for a colleague of mine. Unfortunately that was many many years ago in vb6 and we don't have the code anymore. I do know that it must work somehow though.
I created a test program that simply contains the logon code and nothing else, but as soon as the job gets to the .Connection.Logon(0, silent) line it stops. I tried R3.Connection.RfcWithDialog = 0 and other properties of the SAP object, but nothing works.
The job simply never gets past that line.
Relevant code:
Dim R3 As Object = CreateObject("SAP.Functions") With R3 .Connection.Client = Client .Connection.User = User .Connection.Password = Password .Connection.RfcWithDialog = 0 .Connection.System = "Q11" .Connection.MessageServer = MessageServer .Connection.GroupName =GroupName End With Call R3.Connection.Logon(0, silent)
Product dependencies on SQL versions
We recently ran in to an issue where SharePoint 2013 needed SQL 2012 or higher to get the full feature set from SharePoint. We're about to upgrade both SQL clusters, probably to 2014. The question has come up whether or not we need to buy those licenses with software assurance or not. It's costly to buy it that way. Typically you don't need to be on the latest version of SQL to get other products to work but with what happened with SharePoint 2013 we're not sure.
Does anyone have any insight in to whether MS will be doing things like that moving forward? I don't want to purchase SQL 2014 without SA only to realize we needed SA in two years when SQL 2016 comes out, or whatever version does.
Any help is appreciated!
SQL Server and Microsoft Message Analyzer ETW Providers
I started with the Message Analyzer forum and they referred to the SQL Server forums. (So don't send me back plz)
I started using the Message Analyzer ETW Providers to troubleshoot a WCF/TCP Socket problem and I noticed that it ships with five SQL server ETW Providers. However, none of them seem to collect any data and there is almost nothing on Google. Where
can I find more information on these?
Thank you,

VERY High Pages/s on Hyper-V
I have recently started working for a new organisation.
The have a Hyper-V server (HP ProLiant DL580 G7 with 128 GB RAM) running few guest servers that do very little, but one of them is the primary SCCM 2012 server (32GB allocated), and performance is very poor.
We recently added WSUS to this server, and the performance is noticeably worse.
Performance monitor has just shown me pages/s peaking at 16,500, with an average of 250!
This is since we doubled the RAM last night and set SQL to use between 16-24GB ram.
Can anyone confirm if the pages/s is definitely indicative of insufficient RAM, as many articles i have read state?
There is sufficient capacity on the Hyper-V to double the RAM on the SCCM guest, but that means downtime and changes submitting.
Microsoft sql server extended event log file
Dears
Sorry for my below questions if it is very beginner level.
In my implementation I have cluster SQL 2012 on Windows 2012; I am using MountPoints since I have many Clustered Disks.
My MountPoint Size is only 3 GB; My Extended event log are growing fast and it is storing in the MountPoint Drive directly (Path: F:\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Log).
What is the best practice to work with it? (is it to keep all Extended events? or recirculate? or to shrink? or to store in DB?)
- Is there any relation between SQL truncate and limiting the size of Extended event logs?
- How can I recirculate this Extended Events?
- How can I change the default path?
- How can I stop it?
- and in case I stop it, does this means to stop storing SQL event in Windows event Viewer?
Thank you
Full text install
BOL : "In SQL Server 2008, all user-created databases are always full-text enabled and
cannot be disabled"
Why then you need to add the Full text component via installation?

Patching - SQL Server 2008 R2
Hello,
Just realized SQL Servers with in our organization are not been patched for couple of years.
Most of our server are on SQL 2008 R2 and I now need to plan for latest patch.
Looking at the current version and current patch there seems to be 40 different releases in between.
Could somebody advise whether I can go with the latest one directly or do I have to install each patch one by one till the current one?
Best regards,
Mohan
